Is AI the Way of the Future?

You’re probably not alone when you hear the terms artificial intelligence or AI, aliens, or robots taking over the world come to mind. In fact, recently Google’s LaMDA (short for Language Model for Dialogue Applications made it into the news, as it was questioned whether it may have a conscience.

The fact is, computers already process huge amounts of data, far more than the human brain is capable and is why we built computer systems in the first place. What is interesting about AI is how much can be done with it and can be applied into a wide range of industries.

Firstly, what does AI actually mean?

In fact, it’s quite technical, because it depends on the context and the classification of the artificial intelligence and its applications.

There are programs that alter themselves, classed either by rules-based software that automate predefined processes and adapt as they go, or learning, which build models through algorithms or layers of analysis.

Different applications can be used by any of the AI classes.

Cognitive Language – statistics and analysis to understand and generate human languages Computer Vision - analyse images to model, replicate and exceed human vision

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) – mimic the way people interact with the application in through an interface and follow rules to make decisions & perform routine processes

Predictive Analytics – analyse data and variables to learn to predict outcomes

Artificial Intelligence has been used to determine ecosystem health, such as coral reefs, deliver virtual healthcare, more intuitive healthcare by analysing big data from research and

information entered by medical staff and even patients themselves. Predicting rising sea levels, the character of warfare in defence, geochemistry exploration, prediction weather patterns for farming and financial market activity, as well as the evaluation of embryos in IVF treatment. Where we are savvy and probably most comfortable is the use of AI within social media platforms and self-driving or self-parking cars.

It is clear, artificial intelligence is the way of the future as it can be utilised across so many industries and therefore creates a huge opportunity for talent with the skills required to continue driving this progress further.

AI is a specification of DigiTech, a priority sector Australia is investing in to acquire the talent needed to make Australia a Technology leader.

In 2021-2022, digital technologies were allocated $1.2 billion in the Federal Budget for strategic investment, with $124.1 million in initiatives, including a National Artificial Intelligence Centre led by CSIRO Data 61, supported by a network of AI and Digital Capability Centres to drive adoption of AI across the economy.

The AOYE Group are committed to filling the gaps and supporting the key industry sectors in strong demand for DigiTech skills. Australia has an expanding, multi-faceted digital economy with an e-ready government, industries and consumers and an accomplished and innovative ICT R&D sector.
