Australian-made games have been winning major industry awards and pulling in huge global sales, really putting the Australian digital games industry on the map in recent years. According to Global Australia, in 2021, one in every ten games available on Apple’s new arcade video game platform, was made in Australia or New Zealand.

This week is Gamescon 2022 Week, held in Cologne, Germany. With income of Australia’s production of digital games doubling in the past five years, Australian’s love digital games and we have a growing industry very capable of creating competitive products. This has been recognised at Gamescon, with Australia as this year’s Official Country Partner.

Gamescons 2022 involves 1,000 digital games exhibitors from over 50 countries. With Australia’s partnership, our capabilities are on full display to the world industry this week, which will only help to gain more share of the $250 billion global market.

The Federal Government has announced a Digital Games tax offset of 30% which came into effect in July 2022 and State Governments offer a further 10-15% rebate. Australia also has strong intellectual property rights, giving investors the confidence in return on their investment. This should attract even more international gaming developers to the Australian market, looking like a boom in this industry will be imminent.
