Attracting Global Talent to Australia

The Global Talent Visa Program is an initiative designed to incentivise the best talent across the globe to live and work in Australia. It was launched by the Australian Department of Home Affairs in November 2019.

Attracting global talent offers substantial opportunities to help Australia grow and innovate, ultimately stimulating the economy. Global talent is in high demand and our recent white paper report only highlighted this fact. Historically the United States has caught 40-50% of the stream into OECD countries, Australia is fourth on this list, preceded by the UK and Canada.

The Global Talent Visa Program aims to attract elite talent in 10 target industries to immigrate to Australia. These sectors are seeing strong growth and exports, powered by Australian innovation and international partnerships and are supported by target funding and incentives.

  • Increasing productivity and filling in critical gaps in capability

  • Promoting innovation in future-facing industry sectors

  • Expanding channels of capital available for investment

Candidates are required to meet a high standard of eligibility along with an outstanding history of professional achievement, current prominence and expertise in their field. Australia has long benefited from international arrivals bringing talent and skills to fuel our economic growth. Border closures during the pandemic highlighted our dependence on overseas skills across the economy.
